Lately I’ve been trying to keep my mind occupied with whatever I could. I’ve been wanting to be productive in any aspect of my life and for the past couple of months it has come down to writing and home improvement. I own a modest sized house that in all honesty is way bigger than I really need at the time being since it’s just me and my son half the time. But it’s still the space I go home to, my escape from the rest of the world, so why not make it a little better than it was before?
I had the idea in my head that I wanted to change my house room by room. I started in the living room since I spend a good deal of my time there, whenever I do have the time to sit down and catch a show or play a quick game.
Here is the before. This picture was from the actual listing from before I bought it but you get the idea though:
I wanted to build something that would hold a television, all my consoles and for some weird reason hold a fireplace too…yes I know I live in Florida but still…
I drew up a poorly mock version of what I had in mind using Microsoft paint haha
-Notice the canvas idea is the cover art done by @erezul for Love Leveled –
I showed a couple of people what I had in mind and some laughed while others scratched their heads in confusion but I knew what I had in mind. I contacted my dad and showed him what I had in mind and that was that, we decided to start the build.
This was the frame that started it all. We still had a long ways to go including putting up drywall and compound and painting but the skeleton was there and there was no turning back at this point.
Little by little it took shape, it took form and what I had pictured in my head and my poorly drawn out Microsoft architecture sketch had come to life. You can see the end product below which includes the fireplace as well. Plus the coffee table was built by me, which I will post in another article and for the price it was a no brainer. I am proud, happy, feeling accomplished at how the living room turned out. Everything from the color to the design to the throw pillows to the décor was me.
