Are you a full-time writer?
I wish I was! I’m a full time father and a full time worker bee at this point in time. I hope to one day be able to be a full time writer and get to spend whatever time I am not cranking out words with my son.

What is your full name, and when and where were your born?
My full name is Giovanni Acevedo. No middle name and no pen name as of yet. BUT I kind of want to branch out to other areas and might use one soon. I was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Miami, FL. Currently living in Fort Myers, FL.

Do you have any siblings and if so, how many?
I have 3 sisters and 3 brothers but I am the only one that came from the same set of parents.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

Umm…I’m not really sure but playing video games with my brother when we were younger comes to mind. Leo I know you remember playing Final Fantasy VII and leaving the Playstation on because we didn’t have a memory card lol smh.

What kind of kid were you growing up? Were you a good student?
Ooh let’s see. I was a straight “A” student throughout elementary school. Middle school and high school…let’s just say I hit a rough patch and wasn’t the best behaving young adult. But as I got older I got wiser smarter hmm well let’s just say I started heading in the right direction again.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I never knew what I wanted to be honestly. If I had a choice now? A writer. A full time writer.

What inspired you to write?
I loved escaping into books when I was younger. I always loved a good page turner that you couldn’t, and didn’t want to put down. It wasn’t until I was in high school freshman year I think that I needed to keep a daily journal that I actually got into writing.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
I believe in “lust” at first sight. I don’t want you to take this the wrong way but I don’t think you can truly love a person until you know them on a more intimate level. All their dreams, hopes, ambitions. Love is more than just a physical attraction.

How personal is your writing?

Well I believe there is a little piece of me in everything I write. Be it poetry (which I think is the most personal I can get) or a short story (I place myself in the characters mind and see how I would react) or a children’s book (my imagination is old and rusty but still ha-ha) there is a piece of me in every word, in every syllable.

Do you outline?

Define outline…ha-ha. I just write most of the time. If I get an idea stuck in my head I’ll just run with it. I’ll research for new ideas or just imagine what I would want to read that hasn’t been written and go with that. When it comes to poetry, that’s more therapeutic for me I think, it just flows form the heart.

What is your writing routine?
I try to write whenever I can. I wish I could sit here and tell you “Oh yeah I write 1500 words a day or more” but I don’t and I won’t lie to you. Sometimes I have weeks or days where I can sit there and just write and it all comes out so naturally that I don’t want to stop. Other times I just don’t want to write. I feel like I’m bottled up and don’t want to share anything with anyone.

Which comes first, the story or the character?
No idea. Sometimes I see someone and imagine a story. Sometimes I read an interesting prompt and it just flows. Other times I like a prompt or an idea and it’ll just sit there until my brain clicks on.

What advice would you have for someone who would like to become a writer?
Read a lot. Write a lot. Oh and read a lot. Like a lot. I like to read and research whenever I have a chance.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned as an author along your journey?
Just write. No matter what, write. Let the words flow and keep that brain muscle working and sharp. Yeah, you’ll have bad days but you will also have good days for writing. I am still trying to stick to writing a minimum each day but it gets hard when I have to look after everything else going on in life.

How long did it take to get published?
Well I have self-published all my books until this point. It has its advantages and disadvantages. You have to end up doing like 98% of the work yourself but I feel rewarded when it is all said and done.
